The whole Braai experience start with the ember maker. You start your Braai fire in the ember maker, and the braai will provide you with an endless supply of nice hot embers unlike any other barbecue.
Pending on how much heat and power you need, you shuffle the hot glowing embers left or right, under your grill or oven or above the drawers of the braai. You can also leave them under the ember maker, the central fire will heat the surrounding oven or drawers enough to be able to slow-cook your recipes! Thanks to the circulating heat of the central braai fire, you don't only grill direct, but your ingredients are equally heated by indirect heat, avoiding black burned - raw inside chicken legs for example ;-)
The central fire does not only heat your food, it also heat's you and your friends surrounding the Braai! No more cold summer nights and even in wintertime you will experience the cosy heat and pleasures of a mid-winter barbecue event with friends!

At a first glance, most people don't believe that almost any cooking method can be used on the south-African braai. But remember, the basics of cooking is heat, and this heat has been gathered by humanity over wood fires for thousands of years. With the available accessories for your Home Fires Braai, you can transfer this heat for direct or indirect radiation, or (in)-direct contact by the use of a plancha, potjie, Dutch oven, traditional oven, pizza or bread baking stones, wood planks or by using the drawers of your braai.

The Braai oven is almost an essential accessory as you can use it as a hot smoker, slow cooker or traditional oven for which I recommend a pizza baking stone. I might be pushing my luck, but I would also recommend the rotisserie. Simply because it is so simple in use and it will bring you an endless flow of magnificently good grilled jucy chickens and any other piece of meat! In case you like grilling fish or other sensitive ingredients like seafood or vegetables, I also recommend some cast iron or stainless steel griddles or plancha's. Need some advice?
